Our School Council gives children a meaningful voice in school life and helps them to play an active role in the shaping of our community. Representatives from Years 1 to 6 are elected by their classmates and meet regularly to share ideas, discuss issues, and work together to make positive improvements across the school.
Through the School Council, pupils learn the importance of listening to others, representing their peers, and contributing to decisions that affect school life. We value children's opinions and are committed to responding to their ideas wherever possible, helping them to see that their voices can make a real difference.
The School Council reflects our school values of Belong, Respect and Achieve. Members promote inclusion, encourage respectful discussion, and work together to make our school an even better place for everyone.
Here are some of the fantastic things that the School Council have participated in during the last academic year:

Represented Beech Green at a Remembrance Service at Tesco and St. James’ Church.

Organised a whole-school joke competition, discussing what the competition should look like, how to make it fair for all children and what prizes should be awarded.

Organised a reading competition to encourage a love of reading across the school.

Assisted in planning our Whole School Sports Day. They discussed what they wanted the event to look like, created banners and helped choose some of the activities. Our Year 6 School Councillors also supported children who came in fourth place, helping to ensure everyone felt included and celebrated. They assisted with the set-up and organisation of the event throughout the day.

Taken part in litter picking around the school grounds to help keep our environment clean and tidy.

Met to discuss ways to make lunchtimes more enjoyable for all pupils. This included opening up the fields, encouraging Play Makers to act as buddies for younger children and monitoring the Buddy Bench to ensure nobody feels left out. School Councillors have also supported the play team during lunchtimes.

Visited Tesco to meet members of the local community over squash and biscuits, where we talked about our school and the work of the School Council. This was a valuable opportunity to build links with the community and develop the children's confidence in speaking to others.

Supported Tesco's food donation collection for people in need. The children took on a range of responsibilities, including speaking to customers about the importance of donating, handing out leaflets and sorting food donations into the correct crates.
